might have some resonance. At first it looks like a norm that that would make it a waste of
resources and time to confront by itself. However, the minority view suggests that there is a
glimmer of hope. In the Corner Reasonings the facilitators floated the idea of a truth and
reconciliation process towards which there was some openness after explanations were
given. The PMI has managed a few situations where perpetrator and family member

attended a retreat together and as a result of this engagement the family member has
forgiven the perpetrator and they have eaten at the same table. Such examples are,
however very few and far between.
View that there is no “justice,” which creates an enabling environment for reprisals and
vigilantism. The view held by communities is that the poor man gets no justice in this society.
It seems likely that as the courts become more efficient, as appears to be happening
under the direction of the new Chief Justice, and if simultaneously police investigations
and the behaviour of the police were to improve, this social norm could be undermined.
