Informed Consent
Once engaged by the CCMO, the next process for DJ included signing a consent form
indicating his agreement to participate in all aspects of the CSJP III programme in keeping
with the conditions stated in the consent form.
Screening
The third step for DJ in the prescribed CSJP III process for client engagement in an intervention
was Screening. The CCMO facilitated the completion of the screening document. Based
on his age at the time of submitting his Referral/Intake Form, DJ was screened as an adult
candidate. The Screener results for DJ indicated that he scored 11 out of a maximum of
18 points. The associated risk factors identified with the Screener were at Q1, Q2, Q5, Q6,
Q7, Q10 and Q11.
Barnes-Ceeney, Associate Professor of Criminology, who developed and normed the
Jamaican Risk Assessment (JRA) posited that, “the screener score predicts JRA risk level
significantly for both youth and adult groups” (Risk Instrument Norming Report, 2016).
Risk Assessment
Based on DJ’s initial screener score of 11 and being positive for seven risk factors, a further
risk assessment was conducted to determine his precise risk level. Table 1 shows the initial
risk assessment score for DJ.
