Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, is assuring the nation that the magnitude of investment poured into the national security apparatus means that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will never again have to deal with negligible treatment.

Speaking at the official opening of the newly built Stony Hill Police Station in St. Andrew on Wednesday, July 30, Minister Chang stated that the level of sustained investments in national security is a serious strategy of the Government.

“This opening is a milestone in public safety for the people of this area. Coming here today is a restatement of our commitment to make sure we provide the JCF with the resources and facilities required to provide a safe environment for the Jamaican people,” the security minister said.

He emphasised that another six police facilities across the island are at various phases of construction or renovations.

Some thirty-five (35) police stations have had tangible upgrades, with two massive divisional headquarters in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland and the St. Catherine North facility well underway. Both stand at a combined $5 billion.

“We are not just fixing police stations, providing communications, providing motor vehicles, technological support, an Autopsy Pathology Suite but we are making sure that justice is delivered in a way that speaks to this Government’s attention to areas that needed strong support,” Minister Chang noted.

The Stony Hill Police Station is a state-of-the-art facility designed to elevate police operations and enhance community safety to benefit members of the community in the communities they serve.

It was constructed by the National Housing Trust (NHT) at a cost of approximately $200 million and is part of the Ministry’s strategic Project Rebuild, Overhaul and Construct (ROC) initiative aimed at modernising Jamaica’s security infrastructure.

“This station is not just a building, it is a symbol of the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening law enforcement and keeping our citizens safe,” said Minister Chang.

“The NHT’s contribution reflects the power of partnership in shaping a more secure future.”

The new police station replaces an aged and deteriorating structure that had long served the community but failed to meet modern operational standards.

Designed with functionality and professionalism in mind, the facility features upgraded office spaces, secure detention areas and improved accessibility; all tailored to support a high-performing police force.
