Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Horace Chang issued a resolute call to action, vowing that Jamaica's pursuit of peace will not falter and sending a stern message to criminals: their time is running out.
Addressing attendees at the official opening of the state-of-the-art Frome Police Station in Westmoreland on Friday, March 14, Minister Chang made it clear: “You can run, but you cannot hide. The police are more than ready to find you and bring you before the courts. Come willingly, or we’ll ensure you come one way or another. There can be no two ways about that in-today’s Jamaica.”
He stated that criminals are learning quickly that the age of evading justice is a thing of the past.
The security minister mentioned that the transformative progress of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is being driven by the government’s bold and continued investment in the nation’s security architecture.
Minister Chang praised the “unwavering commitment to strengthening the security forces”, particularly the JCF.
He highlighted the government’s support for the JCF in its fight against crime, violence and public disorder, pointing out that all efforts being made by the government is to ensure that the people of Jamaica have a strong police force.
“The JCF is a force for good operating lawfully, with precision and integrity. Our mission is clear: to bring the homicide rate down to a level befitting a civilized society,” he said.
Westmoreland has recorded a 31 per cent decline in murders from January 1 to March 13, 2025, in comparison to the same period last year. The decline is credited to the determination of the police, supported by the government’s investments in advanced technology and improved mobility.
The newly constructed Frome Police Station, constructed at a cost of $200 million, stands as a powerful symbol of progress.
It is one of several modern facilities being developed through a partnership between the National Housing Trust (NHT) and the Ministry of National Security—underscoring the government’s promise to protect every citizen of Jamaica through a commitment of quality deliverable service.
