Risk Assessment This is the process of interviewing clients to ascertain their risk level for
violence using the Jamaican Risk Assessment tools (youth or adult
version) to determine eligibility for CSJP services.
Risk Factors Risk factors are generally defined as individual traits, experiences
or environmental factors that increase the probability of a client’s
participation in criminal activities or becoming victims of crime.
Screener The Screener identifies whether an individual should receive a full risk
assessment or be referred to an alternate agency for service. (See
Appendix3)
‘Shotta’ A gunman, usually a member of a gang
Stipend In the context of this publication, it is the amount of money that
the CSJP pays clients on a fortnightly basis to offset travelling and
lunch expenses when they are attending the various interventions/
programmes. It is paid in accordance with attendance.
UPSHOT An online platform that is used to maintain client information that is
transferred from their respective case files.
Youth-at-risk A general term used to describe young people at greater vulnerability
for problematic behaviours, namely; violence, substance abuse,
school failure, juvenile delinquency, and mental health disorders.
