Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security and Peace, the Hon. Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn is reaffirming government’s commitment to creating alternative pathways, ensuring that every child has the chance to thrive in a peaceful and safe environment.

She told an audience of students, parents and teachers at the York Town Primary and Infant School in Clarendon that “discipline is integral to success”.

The Minister was speaking at the institution’s Annual Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday, February 26.

Seventy (70) outstanding students were recognised for their achievements during the last school term, including those who earned a place on the honour roll. Parents of awardees were also honoured with pins as Outstanding Parents, acknowledging their vital role in guiding and supporting their children.

The State Minister highlighted the Ministry’s expanded mandate of peace, which places greater focus on prevention, opportunity creation and youth empowerment, which she stated, must come through perseverance, discipline and hard work.

“The future of Jamaica is not something we wait on; it is something we build, one choice, and one opportunity at a time,” Minister Cuthbert-Flynn said.

She stated further, “national security does not begin with the police. It begins in our schools, our homes and in our communities, with each and every one of you”.

The Minister commended the students for their dedication, noting that their success reflects the values promoted through the Ministry’s LIV GUD Anti-violence Campaign.

“Being on the honour roll is not just about grades. It is about discipline, respect, consistency and making the right choices every day. These are the same qualities that help to build a safe and peaceful Jamaica,” she noted.

The Minister also praised parents and teachers for their dedication, pointing out that their guidance has helped to shape not only the future of their children but also the future of Jamaica.

“When you encourage your children to do their best and teach them strong values, you are contributing to a safer and stronger nation,” she said.
