Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Peace, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, has declared the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) as a pillar of law enforcement after the Agency recorded an outstanding 93% conviction rate.
The Security Minister was speaking at the Agency’s Strategic Management Retreat held at the AC Marriott on Wednesday (October 15).
In a powerful display of prosecutorial precision, MOCA recorded a 93.75% conviction rate over the last two years, with 30 out of 32 cases resulting in convictions and two acquittals.
Highlighting the successful completion of investigations into cases involving corruption at the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) and the Manchester Municipal Corporation, valuing a combined $622 million in fraud, Dr. Chang commended the Agency on its handling of “complex corruption cases”.
“MOCA has some very outstanding cases; they take time but that is what corruption does. It requires a disciple and professionalism that has to go through time. This demonstrates MOCA’s professional capacity, attention to detail and discipline [that is] required to deal with this kind of activity,”
Established in 2012, the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) operates as an independent law enforcement body, mandated to combat serious transnational organised crime.
